Phenoxyethanol Preservative

Phenoxyethanol Preservative

Phenoxyethanol Phenoxyethanol is a laboratory manufactured synthetic preservative for cosmetics created by reacting Phenol with Ethylene Oxide. It is cheap and wildly used in a lot of Australian cosmetics. Ethylene Oxide is a known carcinogen, which is linked to lymphoid cancers and breast cancer. It is also a known skin irritant. Phenol has been used in the soap and cosmetic industry for some time now, Carbolic soap contains phenol and creates an antiseptic soap that was used for washing up before completing surgeries or to improve the hygiene in developing countries or in the early 1800’s. There is a lot of information regarding the dangers of Phenol and also just to boggle the mind, the benefits of Phenol in foods. The safety data sheet for Phenoxyethanol states “immediately wash affected areas thoroughly with water for at least 15mins, then flush with water for 5mins. If reddening persists, or if the open sores or blisters develop, contact a doctor or head the your local emergency department immediately.” Phenoxyethanol is not your friend. I did read that phenoxyethanol isn’t suitable for humans 3yrs and under yet there are many products out there aimed at this age category with phenoxyethanol present. Please check the ingredients of products you may purchase or already have. We use Naticide as our choice of preservative in our skin creams. We are required to label it on our preperations as Parfum or Fragrance as the name Naticide is a registered trademark. Naticide is a palm oil free vegetable origin ingredient with a wide spectrum of activity. Naticide is suitable for safe and preservative-free formulations and it is not classified as a traditional preservative rather a fragrance. We would love to create our skin creams to a price but just cannot. Our ethics and morals to create skin cream that is food for your skin is forefront in what we do. For example, to purchase 100g of Phenoxyethanol, expect to pay around $10.00 but to purchased 100g of Naticide® we can expect to pay around $70.00. Please read what is in your skincare, greenwashing and relevent marketing is rife.
